Grammar Girl's "Citing Podcasts and Websites" episode was quite interesting. Grammar Girl explained several prerequisites that help determine whether the source is credible and factual. The reason for citing a website is to boost your credibility, but also give credit to the source you've used. I'll sum up the topics Grammar Girl covered including the major 3 styles of citations.
Citation Associations
There are three major associations:
• Modern Language Association (MLA): This is the Citation Format our class uses.
• American Psychological Association (APA): Another format that seems to be the distinguished type of the three.
• Chicago Manual of Style: This format is closely related to Modern Language Association.
Before choosing to actually cite the website and/or podcast, you should check to see if the site has genuine qualities. These genuine qualities include having something like a "seal". For instance, when purchasing a good or service over the internet, using a site that allows Credit Card purchases will usually have a trust seal.
It is important to cite any content that you have quoted or used in your document. This gives credit to the author or source and helps educate people; verifying that it is genuine information.

i think the word that can make your sentence sound better.it can also make your sentence flow.but there are time when the word that is not called for to be used.for example i think that i should go to the bathroom or i think i should go to the bathroom.in my first example that is really not need but it make my sentence flow.
grammar girl 110 when to "that" out
I learned that it is important to cite a source used, because the credit must be given to the author responsible for providing the information. Not citing a source can be illegal, because it is considered plagiarism. A few things to keep in mind when citing a source are: check for an author, check if the website has been reviewed by an expert, check for spelling errors, and check if the information is up to date. The three commonly used citation styles are: Modern Language Association (MLA), American Psychological Association (APA), and the Chicago Manual of Style.
Examples:
Modern Language Association (MLA):
Rothfeld, Michael. "Gov. Schwarzenegger's minimum wage order upheld." 19 March 2009 19 Mar 2009 http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-budget-wages20-2009mar20,0,1648812.story?track=rss.

I learned that it is important to cite to egnolage the persons work that you have incorporated. Not citing a source can be illegal, because it is considered plagiarism.Grammar Girl explained several things that help determine whether the source is credible and factual. you can put them at the end of your transcripts. To determined if the text is credible or not can you tell who wrote the site, was it edited. You can go to google and type in link and the url. There are different kinds of Web pages, and many require different formatting. There are three major citation Associations such as American Psychological Association, Chicago Manual of Style, and Modern Language Association Style
For example: http://www.hamiltonhighschool.net/apps/classes/

This podcast was dear to my heart because I hope to be a writer and I would not want to have my thoughts plagiarized! The best reason for including citations, however, is that they provide an opportunity to evaluate the accuracy of the content of the written work. The citation rules seem excessively detailed, but I suppose that a uniform system of citation produces clarity and ensures that all the details necessary to retrieve the source are included.
The same general concept applies to evaluating the reliability of podcasts and other information found on the web. Grammar Girl recommends several factors to consider, including the sponsoring organization and whether other sites link to it, thus indicating their approval of the content. In my experience, the most important factor is the sponsor of the website.
Here is a citation to an article in MLA and APA format:
Crutsinger, Martin. "Protestors Visit AIG Officials' Lavish Conn. Homes." Newsweek.com 21 Mar. 2009. 21 Mar. 2009 http://www.newsweek.com/id/189444
Crutsinger, Martin (2009). Protestors visit AIG officials' lavish Conn. homes. Newsweek. Retrieved March 21, 2009, from http://www.newsweek.com
Navpreet understood how to evaluate the reliability of a website. My only question about his citation format is whether his APA format citation is correct. According to Diana Hacker, when retrieving an article from a newspaper's searchable website, APA format gives only the URL for the site, not the exact source.

What I learn in Grammar Girl was that it is not write to copy someones work when you know is not done by you because that will be illegal and you will go to jail for doing that so its better if you do your work by your self with your own ideas. It is write to used the name of the person who your speaking.
Example:
JOHANA:
Hi! how u been Victor?
VICTOR:
I been good Johana! how about you?
JOHANA:
I been great. Well see you later Victor! Bye!
VICTOR:
Okey bye!
Respond:
I agree with Breton because it is alway write to used the person who you talking name but actully not always but like he/she would know who you are speaking/talking to!
This Grammer Girl was about citing and websites. It Basically is showing and telling you how and why you should cite websites. In by citing different websites you will help increase your credibility.
ex."Jaden refused to be played."
ex"he refused to be played."
I think Grammar Girl was ok this week because I never really got the point Of citing sentences or web cites but I though that it was quite interesting.

Grammer Girl "Citing Podcast"
It really helped me a lot because now i really know how important it is to cite. I guess it's fair to give the person credite from whom you got the information from.I also learned that is illegal to acknowledge some ones else work.
Andy9
You understood very well about why is it so importent to cite other peoples work Im glad you gave examples from MLA to APA so peopple that read your comment could understand what exactly are you talking about..
Gloria Alas
The gramer girl talks about how to cite.It also tells you about why its important. Its important because you have to show were you got the information from.I think that Brenton could of said some more about what he learned.
example:"I'm going outside"said Vanessa.
"why your not so pose to be outside"said Kathy
Jose Franco
Ryan Harper

It is important to cite because, it lets the teacher know you actually read the story or article. Also it gives the reader an insight on where to look if they want to find the quote or information leading to it.
There are three associations with citation: M.L.A, A.P.A, Chicago Manual of Style.
I agree with Andy even though his explanations are very long. You should see if the quality of the text is worth citing.
IN PODCAST #102 GRAMMER GIRL TALKS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF CITING PODCASTS AND WEBSITES. IT IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE YOU ACKNOWLEDGE OR GIVE CREDIT TO THE PERSONS WORK THAT YOU INCLUDED IN YOUR DOCUMENT. IF YOU DON'T CITE YOU ARE COMMITING PLAGERISM WHICH MEANS THAT YOU ARE TAKING CREDIT FOR SOMEONE ELS'S WORDS. WHEN YOU CITE A WEBSITE YOU NEED TO KNOW IF IT'S ACTUALLY A CREDIBLE SOURCE AND THAT IT'S STILL GOING TO BE ON THERE IF YOU GO ON IT AGAIN. YOU CAN ASK YOURSELF SOME QUESTIONS TO BE ABLE TO FIND OUT IF A WEBSITE IS CREDIBLE OT NOT. YOU CAN ASK YOURSELF "CAN YOU TELL WHO WROTE THE SITE?","HAS THE WEBSITE BEEN REVIEWED BY EXPERTS", OR "ARE THERE A LOT OF TYPOS?" THERE IS ALSO THREE CITATIONS STYLES INCLUDING MODERN LANGUAGE ASSOCIATION, AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGY ASSOCIATION, AND THE CHICAGO MANUAL OF STYLE.
EXAMPLES OF THE CITATION STYLES
MODERN LANGUGE ASSOCIATION:
Pucin, Diane. "Lance Armstrong breaks collarbone in bike-race pileup." LA Times March 23, 2009 23 Mar 2009 http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-armstrong24-2009mar24,0,1756798.story>.

Reading grammer girl 102 was kind of interesting. It was telling us about how important citations are.It is good to give the full information about something instead of half. The two citation styles i know are Modern lauguage association(MLA) and American psychological associattion.(APA)
I would have to agree with andy9 and Navpreet. I think they understanded it more than everyone else and had a better understanding of it.

Grammar Girl's "Citing Podcast and Websites" episode was very interesting. The podcast was about the importance of citing a website. Citing is for credibility and factuality. But citing also gives the primery source credit for his or her work. Below is the citing association.

There are three major associations:
• Modern Language Association (MLA): This is the Citation Format our class uses.
• American Psychological Association (APA): Another format that seems to be the distinguished type of the three.

i think andy does a great job of explaining the grammar girl podcast. good job andy
In today's episode in grammar girl about "Citing Podcasts and Websites" was very clear and easy yo understand.
Even I knew what it was about and how important it is too. Also, where to go to cite a website. Why you may ask? An easy answer to say, because of my teacher Ms. Allen.
In the podcast it said that people asked why citation is important and that is one of the things that I have always asked my self when our teacher tells us to cite our work. The reason for citing is to mostly take credit for what you have done, not to copy but to show your people where you got the work from. Mostly some teachers or instructors tell their students to do it, in order for them to see if they have plagiarism while doing their own work.
I've also knew that you can go cite your work at:
*MLA (modern language association)
*APA(american psychologival association)
*chicago manual of style
Examples of MLA:
1. My Book: Too Late the Phalarope
Paton, Alan. Too Late Phararope. 1995. United States of America: Simon & Schuster New York, 1948.
Examples of APA:
1. Paton. (1928). Too Late the Phalarope. In undefined. Retrieved undefined, from undefined.
Examples of Chicago Manual of Style:
1. Kraul, Chris. 2009. China's Copper Mine Project. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fg-china-mine22-2009mar22,0,977261.story. (accessed March 22, 2009).

This podcast was used to help some masses that simply take cannot site their sources. When working on a certain project, we are more likely to use the internet for such data. Citing your source of date properly can both safely give you prominent credibility as well as recognition got the source cited.
they are 3 ways to cite:
1.)MLA
2.)APA
3.)CMS
Way to go Andy! Your explanation was precise and lucidly said. Your examples are more than enough and whoever reads this and is still baffled by the podcast. I recommend you read Andy's synopsis.
(Juhyun Kim, per3)
This episode was about Citing podcasts and websites.
Citations are important because it helps readers who want to more about the topic and gives credits to those who had original ideas.
When citing electronic sources, it's important to consider if it's reliable because there are tons of information which are totally wrong and not credible.
Generally three following citation styles are used: Modern Language Association, American Psychological Association, and The Chicago Manual of Style.
I decided to stick with MLA format.
These are two examples of MLA citation style.
1. Fogarty, Mignon. "Citing Podcasts and Websites." Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing. 11 Apr. 2008. Quick and Dirty Tips Website. 24 Mar. 2009
(http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/citing-podcasts-and-websites.aspx).
- I'm supposed to use "<" and ">" but this blog doesn't allow.
2. Glionna, John. "Japan: Blurring the line between bullets and trains." 24 Mar. 2009. Los Angeles Times. 24 Mar. 2009. (http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-japan-bullettrain24-2009mar24,0,2177731.story).
*I think Andy's comment was very detailed and thorough. His comparison beween MLA, APA, and Chicago style was very intersting.
Grammar Girl # 102 is about citing podcast and websites which is something our teachers asks us to do often on essays, reports and some assignments. Citing websites and other sources is important to show its credibility and to give the source credit for using it. It also allows the viewer of the document to know where that information is and wheter the student or person is plagiarizing.
There are 3 major styles of citation:
1.Modern Language Association (MLA)
2.American Psychological Association (APA)
3.Chicago Manual of Style
Examples:
MLA:
nostalgic. Dictionary.com. WordNet® 3.0. Princeton University. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/nostalgic (accessed: March 24, 2009).
APA:
nostalgic. (n.d.). WordNet® 3.0. Retrieved March 24, 2009, from Dictionary.com website: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/nostalgic

In my opinion I think Andy did a great job and showed a good understanding of what the podcast was about.
I also think that Brenton listened to the wrong podcast and listened to #120 instead on #102 if he would of read the rest the post maybe he would of realized it.
-Zenaida Carrillo Per.3
Citing a source is very important. People today still copy and paste sentences and documents but never copy and past the authors name. Legally the person that wrote those sentences can sue, because you are getting credit from his/her work.
But what I don't understand is if people are not copying and pasting, then their just putting them in their own words. So technically they get away with it either way.
-Bree Pittman
p.3
ZENY7391
Agreeing with Zenaida because sometimes other students want to know where u got that information from. Even teachers.
This podcast was about citing podcast and websites. The main reason people have to cite such things is because teachers and editors require it, otherwise it is considered plagiarism. Citing your resources also help your reader explore the topic if they chose to. Citations also adds credibility to your writing. However, when citing electronic sources you have to worry about weather it is credible and weather or not it will exist the next day.
This grammar girl is about citation. It described different prerequisities taht helped determine wheather the source is true or false. Citations are used when you need to cite informtion quoted from someone else
ex
http://www.hamiltonhighschool.net/
i think that nevpret and brenton used
This podcast spoke about using citations. And how important it is for people to use citations. It also spoke of using them in the aid for other people and to let people know where you got your sources from.It also spoke of doing this to avoid plagairsm.
Andy I agree with everything you said it was very well spoken and I follow these same beliefs on this subject.
1. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, On Death and Dying (New York: Macmillan, 1969) 45–60.
In a paper which contains a full bibliography, the shortened note could look like this:
1. Kübler-Ross, On Death and Dying 45–60.
and the bibliography entry, which would be required with a shortened note, would look like this:
Kübler-Ross, Elisabeth. On Death and Dying. New York: Macmillan, 1969.
This Grammar Girl was about citations. It mainly dealt with citing from websites and judging a website's credibility. One of the ways that you can judge a website's credibility is by the grammatical content. If for instance you are on a website that talks about global warming and it says...Globla warming, it is probably likely that there are a few factual errors. Also, if the website was updated ten years ago from the time you accessed it because there may have been new findings or considerable research since then. I disagree with Damon when he says that citing websites will help your credibility. I think they will get in the way of your credibility because anyone can write something on the internet but to write a book one must go through editings and revisions and so on. So quoting from books is what is credible.
-Gregory
Grammar Girl #4 taught us why citing works are important. When works are cited you are able to tell when something is credible and truly a fact.
for example:

beacause i too hope to be a writer some day or atleast have a job where i write alot and i would not want to have my works plagiarized.
Yanina Rodriguez p.6
This podcasts talked about citing websites. It let us know which sources are good and which one aren't. Citing a website gives credit to the source used and to boost the websites credibility.
Examples:
1. Ginsberg, Benjamin, and Martin Shefter. "Ethics Probes as Political Weapons." Journal of Law & Politics 11.3 (1995): 497-511.
Melissa Per.6
This podcast was about citing sources. Grammar Girl explained why citations are important. I learned that the source cited should be credible. Having credibility is important because sources could be misleading sometimes also. Like Grammar Girl stated in the podcast, "If there are a lot of language mistakes, it can mean that there are a lot of factual mistakes, too."
Another concept important here is that preventing to cite a source can lead to plagiarism, which is considered to be illegal.
Examples:
There are three major citation styles consist of Modern Language Association (MLA), American Psychological Association (APA), and Chicago Manual of Style.
Modern Language Association (MLA):
Reynolds , Maura. "Geithner seeks new powers over financial companies." Los Angeles Times March 24, 2009 24 Mar 2009 http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-aig-bonus25-2009mar25,0,1264691.story.

Well this Grammar Girl was about "Citing Podcasts and Websites" it showed 3 important citation associations, they are Modern Language Association (MLA),American Psychological Association (APA), Chicago Manual of Style. Those are three different ways to cite a web site, you need to cite a website to boost your credibility, and give credit to the source you used. Grammar Girl says that before you cite a page you should find out if source is credibl, because if their sources are credible, so will your paper.

In grammar girl #4 shows how imaportant it is to cite your work. I learned that it is imporatnt because it shows where your work was jointed from. Also when using citation it can hrlp the reader understand more about what they are readin. You can always go back to where you have cited and read for more understanding. At first i didnt think citation was something really important. but now reading grammar girl make me think and understand that it is. If the reader reads a paper and doesnt really understand whats trying to say they can always go to where they have cited it from for better understanding.
1.For example
if i was to work cite

in MLA format i would put
"Black Boy" by.Richard Wright

that you jointed it from.
I learned about "Citing Podcasts and Websites." This episode informed me of how important citation are. When you are citing its important to
recognize the people whose work you've put into your document. When you do not cite your source, it's considered plagiarism. When citing you have to make sure you check for an author, check if the website has been reviewed by an expert, and check if the information is up to date. The three commonly used citation styles are: Modern Language Association (MLA), American Psychological Association (APA), and the Chicago Manual of Style.

This podcast was about "Citing Podcast and Websites. Grammar Girl said it is first important to check to see if the website is credible or not. When citing your website you are enhancing your credibility and giving credit to the source you have used. There are three types of citation styles, Modern Language Association, American Psychological Association, and The Chicago Manual of Style.

This podcast is very interesting because Grammar Girl would explain and show us how to cite podcast and websites and how they are important because it would be considered plagiarism. First she would explain to us why is the site important. then the credit she was talking about interest me a lot because its cool to know when the site is old or recent.
Here are some examples on how to site:
MLA:Sylwester, Robert. "What the Biology of the Brain Tells Us about Learning." Educational Leadership 51.4 (1993): 46-51. ERIC. 13 June 1997
APA:Meyerowitz, C. P., Pinello, C., & Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, A. (2003). Tool support for architectural decisions in embedded systems: A tool for describing and evaluating hierarchical real-time bus scheduling policies. Proceedings of the 40th Conference on Design Automation, New York: ACM Press, 312-317. Retrieved February 13, 2005, from ACM Portal database.
Andy know and understands the podcast very well.
Navpreet Singh understands and know this podcast and loveing the examples..

"Citing Podcasts and Websites" talked about the few basics that help tell whether a source is credible or factual as well. The reason why we cite a website is to improves its credibility. This also gives credit to a source you have used. Before choosing to actually cite the website, the first step is to check to see if the site has genuine qualities. A genuine quality can include having something like a "seal." It is vital to cite any content that is quoted or used in a document. This gives credit to an author or source and helps verifying that it is genuine information.
There are three major citation associations:
-Modern Language Association (MLA): This is the Citation Format
-American Psychological Association (APA): Another format that seems to be the distinguished type of the three.
-Chicago Manual of Style: This format is closely related to Modern Language Association.
Citation Examples
1.) MLA:
Besthoff, Len. “Cell Phone Use Increases Risk of Accidents, but
Users Willing to Take the Risk.” WRAL Online. 11 Nov. 1999.

2.) CMoS:
Holmlund, C. 2002. Impossible bodies: feminity and masculinity at the movies. New York: Routledge.
Comments
1.) Andy9's post was very clear with insightive detail. I like his use of "bolding" words. I would like to know how to do that also.
2.) JarstonLA comments some personal thoughts which I enjoyed reading.
In Grammar Girl podcast #102 it talks about what is the importance of websites and podcast. This is very important because you are giving credit to the person’s work that you used. It is illegal if you don’t cite because you are plagiarism which means you are taking credit for someone’s work. There are three different types of citation styles. They are modern language association(mla), American psychology association(apa), and the Chicago manual of style.

• Paul did it a great job on having good examples and keeping everything simple.
Grammar Girl #102 was about Citing Podcasts and Website. I learned that citations are important because not citing can lead to plagiarism and it's good to acknowledge other people's work. Citing can also inform others who are interested in learning more about the topic. I also learned about the credibility of a source. Grammar girl listed a few things to look for when finding credibility like:
1.Can you tell who wrote the site?
2. Has the website been reviewed by experts?
3. Can you tell when the page you are looking at was written?
4. Does the page cite other credible sources you can check?
5. Does it sound too good to be true?
6.Is the site selling something based on the information it’s providing?
7.Do other credible sites link to the site?
8.Are there a lot of typos?
I learned that there are different types of citing styles when citing. For example, because I copied and pasted the 8 questions above directly from grammar girl I would put:
Example #1: Modern American Lit. Style
Fogarty, Mignon . "Citing Podcasts and Websites." Grammar Girl's quick and dirty tips for better writing Episode 102 April 11, 2008 26 Mar 2009http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/citing-podcasts-and-websites.aspx.

In Grammer Girl, The podcast talked about 3 styles of citing sources. The three styles of citing are MLA, APA, and CMS format. The reason for citing sources is to give credit to the person's work or idea. If sources are not cited, then it is plagiarism.
Juan C.
Citations are important because you give the author credit and it gives your work credibility. Although you are taking a risk when using the web, there are websites where you can check their credibility but it really is your part to decide on whether it’s credible. Another risk is that the page may not exist when you go back, but there is a solution to that, you can make a copy of that page or save it to your computer as a HTML. There are three different ways you can cite your sources: MLA, APA and CMS.
Examples:
MLA- Rowe, Richard, and Larry Jeffus. The Essential Welder: Gas Metal Arc Welding Classroom Manual. Albany:
Delmar, 2000.
APA- The Amish, the Mennonites, and the Plain People. (n.d.). Retrieved May 30, 2000 from Pennsylvania Dutch Country Welcome Center Web site: http://www.800padutch.com/amish.shtml
CMS- Roach, John. 2005. Journal Ranks Top 25 Unanswered Science
Questions. http://news.nationalgeographic.com (accessed July 7, 2005).
Responce:
I feel that Brenton should explain more on what he learned.

Grammar girl podcast #102 is about citing web pages. She mentions that before even citing the source, we need to make sure that the source is reliable. To conclude if a source is reliable or not, we ask ourselves a series of questions about the page. If a page is reliable then we go on to citing it by choosing a format from the Modern Language Association, American Psychological Association, and The Chicago Manual of Style.
Examples:
Aversa, Jeannine. "Economy dips at slightly faster 6.3 percent pace." Yahoo Finance. 26 Mar. 2009. 26 Mar. 2009 http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Economy-dips-at-slightly-apf-14751891.html.
Chavis, Shaun. "The Art of Finding a Diet Partner." Health. 24 Mar. 2009. 26 Mar. 2009 http://diet.health.com/2009/03/23/whos-your-best-diet-partner/.
Response:
I think Noheli understood the podcast. The only thing I would correct her and a few other people on is the day they accessed it. I believe many people are confusing "accessed" with the day it was published. Otherwise good job!!!!
This week podcast episode 102 on “Citing Podcast and Websites” and explained the three major citation, The Modern Language Association, the American Psychological Association, the Chicago Manual Style. And explained the importance of why citations are important, to acknowledge the person whose work you’ve used, and to avoid plagiarism. Including citations is mandatory when you have exactly copied someone else work.
