IN GRAMMER GIRL THE PODCAST #22 WAS TALKING ABOUT SINGLE QOUTATION MARKS VERSES DOUBLE QUOTATION MARKS.WE HAVE TO USE DOUBLE QUOTATION MARKS WHEN WE USE A BOOK TITLE,OR WHEN WE WRITE SOMETHING WE DONT EXACTLY BELIEVE. THAT WOULD BE CALLED A SCARE QUOTE.IN ORDER TO USE A SINGLE QUOTATION MARK YOU HAVE TO QUOTE SOMEONE WHOSE QUOTING SOMEONE ELSE.

AN EXAMPLE FOR USING DOUBLE QUOTATION WOULD BE: I ENJOYED READING THE BOOK "GO ASK ALICE".

AN EXAMPLE FOR SINGLE QUOTATION MARKS WOULD BE: "SHE WAS NICE TO ME WHEN SHE SAID,'CAN I HELP YOU'"

YIKES! The battle rages: what to use with titles - quotations or underline?

When the text is a longer work, like a novel, a movie, a whole television series, then you UNDERLINE it.

When the text is a shorter work, like a short story, a song, an episode, a scene, then you use QUOTATION marks.

Please make this note, and forever keep this in mind. =)

In grammar girl #22, she was speaking upon single quotation marks against double quotation ,arks. You are supposed to use double quotation when you use a title to a book or story, thats known as a scare note, when you use a single quotation mark you only do that when quoting someone.

An example of double quotation is "The Great Gatsby".

An example of single quotation is ' i have never seen a game like that' said Kobe Bryant.

I think nathalie examples of double and single quotations were alrite but not as good as mines were lol.

In grammar girl episode #22 she talks about single and double quotations.

She says that double quotations are often used around titles, she uses the names of two books to show examples. She also says that double quotations can also be used to indicate that a word is special in some way.

One example of double quotations marks is: The book "The Long Hard Road Out of Hell" by Marilyn Manson was really interesting.

She says that the most common use is when you're quoting someone who is quoting someone else.

an example of single quotation marks would be:
i heard Carlos say: "My friend told me that my teacher said 'page 28 is for homework'"

I liked Nathalies' double quotations marks example

I dont think Landius applied the right use for single quotations on his example

In Grammar Girl podcast #22 she talked about when to use a single quotation mark and a double quotation mark. Double quotation marks are often used around titles, just like she said "Green Eggs and Ham" which is one of her favorite books. They can also be used in a sentence to indicate a word with a special meaning. Single quotation marks are usually said most common when you are quoting someone who is quoting someone else. Also single quotation marks are used when there's a quote in a headline. Grammar Girl gave me a good understanding between the both but single quotation is a little more confusing.

examples:
double quotation- My friend had read "Fathers and Children" and said it was a good book.

single quotation- "Ashley had yelled at me, 'Don't do it now, wait till we get home.'" When i was putting away the powder.

I liked Laundius examples they were straight forwarded and not confusing he went straight to the point.

I also liked chelevips examples he made his point as well in explaining what he had learned.

In the Grammer Girl, What really made me understand the difference between Single Quotations and Double Quotations is when she explained that Double Quotations is used to talk about something that is special in its own way. Or when they are Quoting what someone else said. Single Quotation is used in a Quotation. or like its a Quottation inside a Quotation. As if I am talking and and i am Quoting what someone else said. That really made me understand it a lot.

In Grammar girl # 22 she talks about single quotation Marks and Double quotation marks.
from Grammar girl we learn that double quotation marks are often used in titles. she also says that it used used for a special meaning in some cases.
an example of double quotation mark is i hate the comic book series "the Watchmen".
Single quotation mark is used when you are quoting someone else.
for example " my sister shot Daniel before she said,'you going down fat boy".

PODCAST #22 DEALS WITHTHE ISSUE OF DOUBLE QUOTATIONS AND SINGLE QUATATIONS. IT EXPLAINS THAT DOUBLE QUOTATION MARKS ARE USED TO SHOW A TITLE, WHEATHER IT BEING FROM A BOOK OR A PREFESSION, AND ALSO USING IT WHEN A WRITER THINKS THAT A WORD IS SPECIAL SINCE THE ATUAL MEANING DOES NOT EXACTLY GO WITH IT.

AN EXAMPLE OF DOUBLE QUOTATION IS:
THE TEACHER ASSIGNED HER CLASS TO READ THE BOOK "MANCHILD IN THE PROMISED LAND."

AN EXAMPLE OF SINGLE QUOTATION IS: WHEN THE GIRL WENT BACK TO CLASS AND ASKED FOR HER WORK FROM HER FRIEND SHE TOLD HER, "THE TEACHER SAID,'READ CHAPTER 1-3'"

RESPONSE #1:
I LIKED THE EXAMPLE THAT EDWIN GAVE FOR SINGLE QUOTATION MARKS BECAUSE IT SHOWED A WAY IN WHICH THEY ARE USED.

RESPONSE #2:
I THOUGHT THAT CHRISTIAN'S EXAMPLE FOR SINGLE QUOTATION WAS HILARIOUS.

In Grammar girl # 22 she talks about single quotation Marks and Double quotation marks. Where single quotaion would be use in the term of what that person said and double quotation gives you the idea of a she or he said reaction!

Ex 1: In the mist of my beating heart I whisper her name" Roxy"

Ex 2: The best movie this summer was "Batman DarkKnight"

In this grammar girl podcast, I learned about single quotation marks and the issue of double quotation marks. This can be used to indicate if the word is special in a way which might be more important or consequential than the rest of the text.

Examples:
1. Single Quotation
I learned about "single and double quotation marks."

2. Double Quotation would have a quote but inside that quote, it would have another quote surrounding by another quote which wouldn't be double.

As the writer describes the motif, "the motif can also determine the level of 'magic' this book can have."

Responses

*Reyna used effective examples and it shows me that she understood the podcast well.

*Lauren's example was also clear and descriptive. She cleared it for me on how the quotations really worked.

Gramma #22 expains the differences between single quotation marks and double quotation marks, and when is the time to use them correctly.

We can use bouble quotation marks when there is a direct quotation and spoken word. We can also use bouble quotation marks when a word is special and to refer a word rather than to use its meaning.

We can use single quotation marks inside the double quotation marks. When you are quoting something that has a double quotation marks already, you change it to single quotation marks. We also use single quotation marks when there is quotation in a headline to show the special meaning of a word.

ex: He has "girlish" scarf.
(the double quotation marks is used to show the specail meaning of the word "girlsh".
