Podcast #104 This episode was very important. There are many people that you long sentences, causing the reader to lose interest. A long sentence is one that has more than 30 or 40 words. Grammar girl gives us a quick way to fix our long sentences. All we have to do is figure out what are main points are, without leaving out a subject or verb. If one of those are left out the sentence is now considered a fragment.
Example 1 Long Sentence
In the middle of the day, while the sun was shining, and the birds were singing, a loud noise disrupted all the peace, the birds flew away, and the neighborhood was now in pure silence.
This podcast on sentence length is good to know. What stood out to me the most is when she talked about finding the proper length. She said don't tell every to much in one sentence but don;t tell them too little in a fragment. She said use medium-sized sentences with 30 or 40 words. Another thing that stood out to me is when she said to shorten a long sentence find the main clauses and take them out to put them in medium-sized sentences.
Example 1: fragment
When i was little.
Example 2: Long Sentence
When i was little me and my brother used to play outside, we rode our bikes, we played cops and robbers, we drank juice, we ate pizza, we drank kool-aid, we took naps, we got in trouble, then we would watch t.v., listen to music , then go to sleep.
this podcast is about sentence length. and when readers go through your sentance they get wade because of the who that and and the commas semicolons thats how the long clause sentnce gives up before its even fiished.
example 1: in the middles of the night one coldy night with fogs over it, there was loud noise of people screaming and running around the streets because of the gunshots that where taking place.
example 2: in the middle of the night there noises of the gunshot.
This weeks podcast was about sentence length and fragments. I admired how Bonnie Trenga used one of her old memorizes about Proust to explain what a long sentence may look like. She used humor to describe what a sentence fragment was, which made it easier for me to relate to. A sentence fragment is when you leave out a subject, verb, and /or object. If i said," I need a book, to read with pages," that would be an example of a sentence fragment.A long sentence is just a sentence with way too many words and punctuation signs. An example of a long sentence is," I went to the beach, and rode a bike, played in the sand, ate some ice cream, went under some waves, and then went home and told my dad what I had did that day." A normal sentence should only consist of no more than 30 or 40 words.
Grammar girl #104 is about Sentence length. It explains how, long sentences can tend to be often unreadable. For example, When I woke up that morning, I stretched out my long arms, and wiped the sleep off my eyes, ready for a brand day, I could smell breakfast in the air, and it was defiantly calling my name. To lengthen the sentences I used commas and no periods. Grammar Girl also talks about Sentence Fragments, which are basically incomplete sentences. Fragments leave out the subject, verb or object. For example, My favorite color. The sentence is incomplete because it doesn't explain what my favorite color is.
#1 I thought that Jakelyng knew exactly what she was talking about and that she understood the grammar girl episode. Her examples were clear for me to understand and it looked like she didn't have any problems writing her own examples.
#2 Courtne also understood the grammar girl episode because she wrote what a sentence should look like and what a sentence fragment is. Her examples was great and so was her response to grammar girl episode #104.
Podcast #104 talked about sentence length. The podcast said a long sentence is one with 30 or 40 words, to fix a long sentence you must pick out the main ideas and turn them into medium sentences. but be sure that all the sentences have a subject and verb or it will be considered a fragment. Too many long sentences with bore the reader. Short sentences will make the reader think they missed somthing.
Example #1
then they ran off.
Example #2
One sunday morning, with the music playing, football on the telivsion, and grandma making breakfast,a sudden scream caused everyone to go outside, which we saw 2 boys kicking another boy, we ran towards the boy, then they ran off. (idk if this is right)
responce#1 Ashika's examples showed that she unerstood the podcast. i like her sentence about the beach although im too lazy to ride a bike on the beach. lol
responce #2 courtne's summary to the podcast was good. it showed that she understood the differences between long sentences and fragments. I played cops and robbers when i was little too.
Postcast #104 This episode was about the different sentence. This was an important episode for those who write an essay or anything. The podcast was abouta long sentence is a sentence that has 30 or 40 words. A fragment is a sentence that repeats and doesn't make sense.
Ex. Jackie and Priscilla went studying on a Friday night, when they had an appointment with their dates to the beverly hills movies.

Ex. Jackie and Priscilla went studying and had dates.
Jackie Gonzales made her sentences very clear and understable for anybody to get the differences between both sentence. She gave an easy fragment that anybody can mistake and write down.
response #2
Kristina is hungry made her example number 2 very funny and very clear. There was no fragment in it and she made it very understandable as in putting the commans it the sentence to make it a long good sentence.
Response #1: Jazmine understood the podcast. She understood everything she explained the differences between long sentences and fragments
Response #2 I like the comment Ashika made saying that the lady in grammar girl used humor to explain the difference between long sentences and short sentences and that helped her better understand.
Podcast #104 This podcast explaines "Sentence Lengths". The speaker uses one example, Proust’s enormous sentence, which is an anomaly. Long sentences tend to cause the readers to lose tack and these sentences can become unreadable. A long sentence consists of 30 or 40 words, to fix a long sentence you have to take out the main ideas and turn them into medium sentences. Check to see that all the sentences have a subject and verb or it will be considered a fragment. One con about longs sentences is they may bore the reader. A con on short sentences is they may make the reader think they missed somthing thoughout the text.
Long Sentence: For my internship at "Reserve", on Fairfax, I greet customers, stock new shipment, browse through our new inventory, admire the clothes, I do it all because I love streetwear.
Fragment: One good customer, Lil wayne.
Comments 1. Jackie-I love your example of Long Sentences. I truly admire how flowy and easy to understand ur sentence is because I had a hard time creating my own. 2. Courtne-"When I was little"...it was short and definitely a fragment.
PODCAST #104 THIS EPISODE OF GRAMMAR GIRL WAS VERY IMPORTANT. IT COVERED THE TOPIC OF LONG SENTENCES, I KNOW I USE SUPER LONG SENTENCES. A LONG SENTENCE CONTAINS MORE THAN 30 OR 40 WORDS. I believe JazzyPT completely understood the podcast. I love the "long sentence" she used, because it made me picture breakfast tomorrow morning!!!
I think KRiiStiiNa iiS HuNGrY semi understood what the podcast was saying. She understood what a long sentence was, but not a fragment. Reason being is because her example of a fragment is an actual sentence, it has a subject as well as a verb. Other than that I thought everything was great!!
This week podcast was about long sentences and fragment sentences and finding the proper length and also finding and fixing long sentences. While listing to this podcast, it made me realize that I sometimes write long sentences without even noticing it. One thing that stood out to me from the podcast was “if you leave out a subject verb, or object you’re stuck with a fragment sentence.
Examples
Long Sentence
"Adina trip to Mexico lasted for two weeks she left without saying goodbye to her best friend Priscilla and her boyfriend although she didn’t say good bye to them she knows that they well be mad at her when she comes back from her trip, because she left without telling them".
Fragment Sentence
"Adina went to Mexico without me"
Responses
1. Courtne had a good understanding of what a fragment sentence is “When I was little”
2. Alyssa Pablo had a great fragment sentence “ One, good customer, Lil wayne.
This podcast was about sentence length. It was very helpful. I used to consider long sentences as intelligent statements, but I realize that most long sentences confuses readers. So, it's hard to convey the writer's intended message.
The author of this episode says that most sentences should contain no more than 30 or 40 words. An example of long sentence would be : I was so exhausted from doing chores all day long, but it was almost impossible for me to take a rest while my brother is screaming and the dog is barking and my baby sister is crying.
A sentence fragment is an incomplete sentence. An example of sentence fragment would be : While my brother is screaming
*response* I think jazzypt's explaination was thorough. I see he/she understood this episode very well.
I like duckie's example of long sentence. It was very interesting. Also I can tell he/she knows about sentence length.
This podcast is helpful, especially to those who just keep writing on and on about their topic, then creating super long sentences.People make that mistake without realizing it. Grammer girl teaches us the appropriate way to fix our long sentences with out leaving out and subjects, verb and/or objects that will create fragments.
ex. long sentence Jaime was hungry all throughout the day, so he many slices of pizza and some cake, but he was still hungry so he ate some more cake, later on he ended throwing up.
ex. fragment Jaime was hungry all day, and threw up
Eva's comment was great because it related to what grammer girl said and those were good examples. Jackie's examples were good too because she had a good fragment that was from her long sentence
Podcast #104 This episode was specially made for people who just can use the power of a period. Long sentences just bore people out and eventually lose its grab on the reader. The solution is to shorten sentences to a smaller length to still keep the reader awake.
Example: As I walked slowly in the gloomy hall, and while the lights blinked the sound of death, the sound of my clock awaken the morning sunshine.
That is a pretty long sentence that contained fragments and eventually bores you, well maybe.
Example 2: As I walked slowly through the hall I heard sounds that lead me to the beauty of the sun.
Podcast #104 One of the main things to remember about writing long sentences is that you have to know how to use the semicolons, commas, and clauses int the right place. And in long sentences there are going to be plenty.
If you ever wanted to make a long sentence into a short one, just take out the main points. In the long sentences there are usually more that two main points.
Response #1: I agree with Jackelyng. She said that a long sentence has 30 to 40 words. But sometimes with long sentences like that you have to know how to put the words together. And to be careful not 2 have any sentence fragments.
Response #2: JadeAshley09 was a perfect example of a long sentence.
" Today I went out to eat with my mom, brother, cousin, aunt, grandpa, we had so much fun, we ate steak, baked chicken, porkchops, vegetables; The food was delicious!"
In there was a sentence fragment. But the main part was that we are able to make the sentence into a short one.

I like duckie's example of long sentence. It was very interesting. Also I can tell he/she knows about sentence length.

This podcast is helpful, especially to those who just keep writing on and on about their topic, then creating super long sentences.People make that mistake without realizing it. Grammer girl teaches us the appropriate way to fix our long sentences with out leaving out and subjects, verb and/or objects that will create fragments.
ex. long sentence
Jaime was hungry all throughout the day, so he many slices of pizza and some cake, but he was still hungry so he ate some more cake, later on he ended throwing up.
ex. fragment
Jaime was hungry all day, and threw up
Eva's comment was great because it related to what grammer girl said and those were good examples.
Jackie's examples were good too because she had a good fragment that was from her long sentence

This episode was specially made for people who just can use the power of a period. Long sentences just bore people out and eventually lose its grab on the reader. The solution is to shorten sentences to a smaller length to still keep the reader awake.
Example:
As I walked slowly in the gloomy hall, and while the lights blinked the sound of death, the sound of my clock awaken the morning sunshine.
That is a pretty long sentence that contained fragments and eventually bores you, well maybe.
Example 2:
As I walked slowly through the hall I heard sounds that lead me to the beauty of the sun.

One of the main things to remember about writing long sentences is that you have to know how to use the semicolons, commas, and clauses int the right place.
